Led by solid performances by Grant Sandberg and Andrew Reis, the Saints Boys Golf team finished in third place at the Cloverbelt Conference match at Hickory Hills Monday afternoon. The weather was perfect for golf with light winds, temperatures in the 70s, and slightly overcast skies.
Returning All-Conference performer Sandberg fired a three over par round (36) to finish in a tie for second place. Sophmore Andrew Reis played a solid round finishing at 6 over par (39) for the nine holes. In a round that could have easily been even better, Reis left a few birdie putts just inches short of the bottom of the cup. Reis was tied for sixth place in the overall individual results. Both Sandberg and Reis earned valuable all-conference points in their first match of the season.
Bryan Misener (48), Afton Fedie (52) and Ethan Petersilka (55) rounded out the scoring for the Saints.
As a team, the McDonell-Regis Saints finished third with a score of 175. Cadott won the match with a score of 162. Marshfield Columbus-Spencer was second with a score of 171. In the team format, the top four of the five players individual scores are add up for the team total.
The Saints are in action later this week with JV and Varsity matches set for Thursday at Hickory Hills and Osseo respectively. The Varsity will be playing their first 18 hole invitational at the Chi-Hi Invite this Saturday at Lake Wissota Golf.
